“Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.” Hebrews 2:18
Why did Jesus stand in the center of the cage of life and take the enemies punches round after round? Why did he allow himself to get tired (John 4:6)? Why did he get upset in Nazareth during the championship rounds, (Mark 6:6) and angry in the Temple leading up to the fight (John 2:15)? Why was he exhausted after his fight to the point he fell asleep in a boat (Mark 4:38)? Why did he allow himself to get hungry while exchanging blows with Satan in the wilderness (Matt.4:2)?
Why? Why did he allow all feelings to punch him in the face and kick him in the legs? Because he knew, you and I would be punched and kicked by them too.
He knew you would be weary during the championship rounds of the good fight, disturbed when your punches are countered and angry when your opponents fight unfair. He knew you would be exhausted from training every day, grief-stricken from your losses, and hungry when you fail to put food on the table. He knew you would be on your back being pounded in the face by pain. If not the pain of the body, the pain of the soul…pain too sharp for any manufactured cure. Moreover, because he understands, we can crawl to him in between rounds.
